Radyr Rangers Celebrate Major Step Forward at the Moundfield

Radyr Rangers Football Club is celebrating a fantastic milestone after securing preferential user rights over the Moundfield — a major step forward for the club and its future.
Anyone who has been involved with Radyr Rangers knows that progress like this doesn’t happen overnight. The club has grown year after year thanks to the passion, dedication, and hard work of volunteers who care deeply about grassroots football and the community around it.
Hard work pays off
Securing preferential use of the Moundfield is the result of years of effort, discussions, planning, and determination. A huge thank you must go to former chairman Ben Robinson, Ben Pritchard, current chairman Rob Fancourt, committee members Wyn Williams and Ciaran Webb, and our two local counsellors, Helen Lloyd-Jones and Callum Davies, who dedicated significant time attending meetings, preparing proposals, working with local stakeholders, and navigating the complex processes involved in making this happen.
Projects like this are never simple. Managing the needs of a growing football club alongside community access, council procedures, and long-term planning takes patience and persistence. But thanks to the commitment of those involved, the club has reached an important and exciting moment.
And it’s a moment worth celebrating.
Having preferential use of the Moundfield gives Radyr Rangers something incredibly valuable — stability. At a time when councils across the country are reducing the number of sports pitches they operate, securing reliable access to quality playing space is more important than ever.
This agreement allows the club to plan training and matches with greater confidence, support its growing number of teams, and provide a consistent home for players, coaches, and supporters.
The Moundfield has long been a place where Radyr Rangers teams come together to train, compete, and enjoy football. Now, with this agreement in place, the club can continue building on that sense of identity and pride for many years to come.
Building for the future
It also creates exciting opportunities for the future. With a more secure base, Radyr Rangers can explore ways to improve facilities, strengthen player pathways, and continue expanding opportunities for young players — including the continued growth of girls’ and women’s football.
Just as importantly, it reinforces the club’s place at the heart of the local community. Every weekend, the Moundfield brings together families, volunteers, players, and supporters, creating a welcoming environment where football helps connect people of all ages.
While this achievement marks an important milestone, it’s also another step forward in the ongoing journey of Radyr Rangers — a club powered by volunteers and community spirit.
Come and volunteer with us
And if you’d like to be part of that journey, we’d love to hear from you. You don’t need any expert football knowledge or prior club experience, just some good old community spirit and enthusiasm.
We are currently looking for volunteers for the following roles:
Girls Section Lead: We’re looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to play a key role in growing our girls’ section and supporting our existing junior teams. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who’s passionate about girls’ football and wants to give back — helping shape the future of the game at our club, making a real difference for young players, and encouraging more girls in the local community to get involved.
Facilities and Pitch Manager: We’re looking for a volunteer to support the club’s Committee in enhancing the club’s facilities and helping with groundskeeping.
If you take pride in a well‑kept lawn and fancy the rewarding challenge of keeping our pitches in great condition for local kids, we’d love to hear from you. It’s a brilliant way to make a real, visible difference to the club and our community.
If you’re interested in getting involved, please email radyrrangersecretary@outlook.com.
